The onset of covid has forced schools to shift operational and instructional strategies online, in-person, or both. In addition to the public health crisis and lockdown, COVID-19 has brought a looming public mental health crisis on its heels (Galea, Merchant, & Lurie, 2020; Holmes et al., 2020; Yao, Chen, & Xu, 2020). Many families and communities are facing economic disaster and have had to sacrifice safety for employment; ….African American/Black, Latinx, or Native American (Laurencin & McClinton, 2020; Wang & Tang, 2020; Webb Hooper et al., 2020). A designed strategy to support student mental help in the fall will be essential to a successful school year. This presentation will examine school district readiness strategy, program focused on staff and student well-being, clarity around roles and expectations, being involved in making crucial decisions, and having the autonomy and flexibility to plan and adapt protocols to meet their needs (Hallinger, 2003; Lai, 2017; Willis, Clarke, & O’Connor, 2017).

Having difficult conversations is never easy. Yet the inner voice which dwells within rarely tells us when we need to have a sometimes awkward conversation with someone—a dialogue that, if it took place, would improve the process, bolster collegiality, and extend collaboration beyond borders. The Twilight discussion will focus on essential cultural factors, strategies, skills, empathy, and ultimately the courage required to forge ahead and just do it.
